Medical Professionals
Working together to advance awareness, understanding and research into Multiple System Atrophy.
At National MSA Research, we recognise the important role healthcare professionals play in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of people living with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).
MSA is a rare, progressive neurological condition that presents complex challenges for patients, families, carers and the healthcare professionals supporting them.
We are committed to raising awareness, supporting research and encouraging meaningful collaboration with medical professionals and researchers across Australia.
Supporting Greater Awareness of MSA
Greater understanding of Multiple System Atrophy is essential to improving awareness of the challenges experienced by people affected by this condition.
Due to its rarity and the similarities it can share with other neurological conditions, MSA can be difficult to recognise and diagnose.
We encourage healthcare professionals to help raise awareness of MSA and promote access to reliable, evidence-based information.
Working With Healthcare Professionals
National MSA Research welcomes opportunities to engage with professionals working across a range of healthcare disciplines, including:
- Neurology and movement disorders
- General practice and primary healthcare
- Nursing and specialist care
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy
- Speech pathology and swallowing support
- Palliative care
- Other relevant medical and allied health specialties
We recognise the value of multidisciplinary care and the contribution of healthcare professionals in supporting people affected by MSA.
Research & Medical Collaboration
Research is central to the mission of National MSA Research.
We aim to support Australian research initiatives that improve understanding of MSA and contribute towards better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
We welcome discussions with medical professionals, research institutions and healthcare organisations interested in supporting awareness, scientific research and appropriate collaborative initiatives.
Our longer-term objectives also include supporting discussions about improving access to brain donation for research in Australia, in collaboration with appropriately qualified medical and research institutions.
Information for Patients & Families
Healthcare professionals can play an important role in connecting people affected by MSA with appropriate information and support.
Our website provides general information about Multiple System Atrophy, our charitable activities, fundraising initiatives and research mission.
We encourage professionals to share suitable educational information and direct patients and families towards recognised healthcare providers and support services.
Please note: National MSA Research does not provide medical diagnosis, individual treatment recommendations or emergency healthcare services. Medical decisions should always be discussed with appropriately qualified healthcare professionals.
Get Involved
There are several ways medical professionals may be able to contribute to our mission.
These include supporting MSA awareness activities, sharing appropriate educational information, participating in community discussions, exploring research collaboration or providing professional guidance through an agreed advisory role.
We welcome conversations with individuals and organisations interested in contributing their knowledge and experience.
