Researchers

Supporting research. Encouraging collaboration. Working towards a future without Multiple System Atrophy.

At National MSA Research, advancing scientific research into Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is at the heart of our mission.

MSA is a rare, progressive neurological condition that presents significant challenges for patients, families, healthcare professionals and researchers.

Although our understanding of MSA continues to develop, there is currently no cure. Continued scientific investigation is essential to improving our knowledge of the condition and identifying potential treatments.

We are committed to supporting the advancement of MSA research in Australia and encouraging meaningful collaboration between researchers, medical professionals and research institutions.

Our Commitment to MSA Research

National MSA Research was established with a vision of helping to advance research into Multiple System Atrophy.

Through fundraising, awareness initiatives and partnerships, we aim to contribute towards research efforts that improve understanding of the condition and work towards better outcomes for people affected by MSA.

We recognise the importance of scientific discovery, collaboration and the contributions of researchers working across different fields.

Advancing Our Understanding of MSA

Research into Multiple System Atrophy encompasses several important areas of scientific investigation.

These include:

  • Understanding the underlying causes and biological mechanisms of MSA.
  • Investigating disease progression and the effects on the nervous system.
  • Improving approaches to early recognition and diagnosis.
  • Exploring potential treatments and therapeutic approaches.
  • Understanding the relationship between MSA and other neurodegenerative conditions.
  • Investigating opportunities to improve quality of life and patient outcomes.

Each area of research contributes to the broader effort to improve our understanding of MSA and identify new possibilities for the future.

Brain Donation & Neurological Research

The study of donated human brain tissue plays an important role in understanding neurodegenerative conditions, including Multiple System Atrophy.

Access to appropriately donated and preserved tissue can help researchers investigate disease-related changes and contribute to scientific discoveries.

One of our longer-term objectives is to encourage collaboration with medical institutions, researchers and relevant organisations to explore opportunities for improving brain donation access for research across Australia.

We recognise the importance of ethical research practices, informed consent and the involvement of appropriately authorised medical and research institutions.

Research Collaboration

Progress in medical research often relies on collaboration between researchers, universities, hospitals, medical specialists, research institutions and community organisations.

National MSA Research welcomes opportunities to engage with individuals and organisations working towards a better understanding of MSA.

We are interested in developing meaningful relationships that encourage knowledge-sharing, research awareness and opportunities to support relevant research initiatives.

Our Research & Medical Advisors

We value the contributions of medical specialists, researchers and scientific advisors who share an interest in advancing MSA research and improving understanding of this complex condition.

Their knowledge and expertise can help inform discussions, research opportunities and the broader mission of National MSA Research.

Approved profiles of our Research and Medical Advisors will be featured here.

Research Enquiries & Opportunities

Are you a researcher, medical professional or representative of a research institution working in an area relevant to Multiple System Atrophy?

National MSA Research welcomes enquiries from individuals and organisations interested in discussing potential research collaboration, awareness initiatives or opportunities for future support.

While we cannot guarantee funding or project involvement, we welcome the opportunity to learn more about relevant research activities and explore areas of shared interest.

Contact Our Team

If you would like to discuss a research initiative or explore opportunities to collaborate with National MSA Research, please contact us.
