Our Impact

Combatting MSA Together — Building Awareness, Community and Hope.

Since our establishment in October 2024, National MSA Research has been working to make Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) better understood across Australia.

What began as one family’s determination to make a difference has grown into a volunteer-driven charitable organisation supported by individuals, families, businesses and community members who share our mission.

Our work focuses on three key objectives: raising awareness, helping people affected by MSA access reliable information, and building support for scientific research into better treatments and ultimately a cure.

Although we are still a relatively young charity, every activity, partnership and contribution helps strengthen the foundation for our future.

Raising Awareness of MSA

One of our most important priorities is increasing public understanding of Multiple System Atrophy.

MSA is a rare neurological condition that many people have never heard of until it affects someone they know.

Through our website, community communications, educational materials and awareness initiatives, we aim to help more Australians understand the condition and its impact.

Our awareness activities have included educational content about MSA symptoms, diagnosis, research and the challenges experienced by patients and families.

We have also developed awareness materials for important initiatives such as MSA Awareness Month in March.

We believe awareness is an important first step towards greater community understanding, stronger support and increased interest in research.

Bringing Communities Together

Community fundraising has been an important part of National MSA Research’s development.

Events create opportunities for supporters to come together, learn about MSA, remember loved ones and contribute to our charitable mission.

Our activities have included fundraising initiatives such as the 2025 MSA Royal Gala, alongside trivia and other community fundraising activities.

These events also provide opportunities for businesses, sponsors, volunteers and individuals to become involved.

The value of community events extends beyond fundraising alone. They help introduce people to our organisation, encourage conversations about MSA and build lasting connections.

Supporting Families Through Information

Receiving an MSA diagnosis can be overwhelming.

Patients and families may face challenges finding information about the condition, understanding available services and identifying appropriate sources of support.

National MSA Research recognises the importance of reliable, accessible information.

Our educational and communication activities aim to improve awareness of MSA and help people find relevant resources.

As our organisation develops, we intend to expand the information available to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.

We do not provide individual medical advice, but we encourage people to consult qualified healthcare professionals and appropriate support organisations.

Strengthening Scientific Connections

Scientific research is central to the future of Multiple System Atrophy.

National MSA Research has established relationships with medical and research advisors who contribute specialist knowledge and perspectives relevant to our mission.

We also recognise the importance of collaboration between Australian and international organisations.

Our affiliation with the MSA United Research Consortium connects our organisation with a wider international community focused on MSA research, awareness, advocacy and support.

These connections are valuable in helping us build knowledge and explore appropriate opportunities for future collaboration.

Scientific advice and organisational affiliations should not be interpreted as confirmation of research funding or particular research outcomes.

A Charity Powered by Volunteers

National MSA Research is driven by the dedication of people who generously give their time and expertise.

Our Directors and volunteers contribute to fundraising, administration, event coordination, communications, community engagement and the continuing development of our organisation.

Volunteer contributions are fundamental to our ability to operate and pursue our mission.

We recognise that the time, skills and commitment given by supporters are valuable contributions in their own right.

Remembering Loved Ones

National MSA Research was founded following the loss of Adrian Klep to Multiple System Atrophy in September 2024.

His story continues to inspire our organisation.

We also recognise the many other individuals and families who have been affected by MSA.

Through remembrance initiatives, Legacy Funds and community support, we aim to create meaningful opportunities for people to honour loved ones while contributing towards the charity’s mission.

Every story reminds us why awareness, research and community connection matter.

Building Towards Research Funding

One of our long-term goals is to support high-quality scientific research into Multiple System Atrophy.

We are working to strengthen the organisational, financial and governance foundations needed to consider appropriate research funding opportunities.

Research funding commitments will only be announced when they have been formally approved.

We will distinguish between funds raised, funds committed to research and funds actually paid to research institutions.

As approved projects develop, we intend to publish appropriate information about funding, progress and outcomes.

Transparency and Accountability

We recognise the importance of demonstrating how National MSA Research is pursuing its mission.

As our activities develop, we aim to provide clear information about our charitable work and its outcomes.

Future impact reporting may include:

  • Fundraising and awareness activities undertaken.
  • Volunteer and community contributions.
  • Approved partnerships and collaborations.
  • Educational resources and initiatives.
  • Verified fundraising and donation figures.
  • Approved research funding commitments.
  • Research progress and outcomes where available.
  • Key organisational milestones.

Financial figures and research achievements will be published only after verification and appropriate approval.

We believe supporters deserve information that is accurate, meaningful and transparent.

Our Impact Is About People

While financial contributions, activities and research milestones are important, our mission is ultimately about people.

It is about the individual facing an uncertain diagnosis.

It is about the family learning how to support someone they love.

It is about the volunteer giving their time, the donor choosing to contribute and the researcher searching for better answers.

Every person who helps increase understanding of Multiple System Atrophy contributes to our wider purpose.

Looking Ahead

National MSA Research remains committed to growing its impact responsibly.

Our priorities include strengthening community awareness, expanding educational resources, encouraging collaboration and building the capacity to support scientific research.

We recognise that progress towards a cure will take time and continued effort.

Through determination, transparency and community support, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to the future of MSA research.

Be Part of Our Impact

There are many ways to support National MSA Research.

You can participate in fundraising activities, volunteer, become a sponsor, make a donation or help share reliable information about Multiple System Atrophy.

Together, we can continue building awareness, strengthening our community and encouraging progress towards better treatments and a cure.
