Community Events

Bringing People Together. Strengthening Communities. Raising Awareness of MSA.

Every community has the power to make a difference.

At National MSA Research, we believe that meaningful change begins when people come together with a shared purpose.

Our community events provide opportunities for individuals, families, businesses, schools and community organisations to raise awareness of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) while supporting our charitable mission.

Whether it’s a small neighbourhood gathering, a workplace fundraiser or a larger community celebration, every approved activity can help introduce more people to MSA and encourage greater understanding of this rare neurological condition.

Community Fundraising With a Purpose

Multiple System Atrophy is a rare and progressive neurological condition that can significantly affect movement, coordination, speech, swallowing and other essential bodily functions.

For individuals and families affected by MSA, the condition can bring considerable challenges.

National MSA Research was established to raise awareness of this condition and encourage progress towards better diagnosis, more effective treatments and ultimately a cure.

Community fundraising helps bring our mission into local neighbourhoods, workplaces and social groups.

By participating, you can help others learn about MSA while supporting an important charitable cause.

Discover Community Events

Throughout the year, supporters may organise approved fundraising and awareness activities benefiting National MSA Research.

These activities can take many forms, bringing people together in ways that reflect their interests and local communities.

Approved upcoming community events will be displayed here as their details become available.

We encourage you to explore opportunities to participate and support the people who generously give their time to organise these activities.

Organise Your Own Community Event

Have an idea for a fundraiser?

You don’t need to organise a large event to make a meaningful contribution.

Some of the most successful community activities begin with a small group of people who want to help.

You might consider organising:

  • A community morning tea.
  • A neighbourhood barbecue.
  • A workplace fundraising day.
  • A trivia or games night.
  • A walking or fitness challenge.
  • A community market stall.
  • A birthday or celebration fundraiser.
  • A school or sporting club activity.
  • A music or entertainment evening.
  • A fundraising challenge involving friends and family.

These are examples of possible activities, not events currently being advertised by National MSA Research.

All proposed fundraising activities must be suitable, appropriately authorised and conducted in accordance with applicable requirements.

How to Get Started

Step 1 — Choose Your Fundraising Idea

Think about an activity that would interest your community and provide an opportunity to support our mission.

Consider the people involved, the location, possible costs and any safety requirements.

Step 2 — Contact National MSA Research

Before advertising or conducting a fundraising activity on behalf of National MSA Research, please contact us.

Tell us about your proposed event, including its purpose, date, location and how funds will be raised.

Step 3 — Obtain Approval

Fundraising activities benefiting National MSA Research require appropriate organisational authorisation.

Depending on the activity, you may need to complete an application or fundraising agreement.

We will consider the proposal and advise whether the activity can be authorised.

Step 4 — Plan Your Event

Once approval has been provided, you can continue preparing your event in accordance with the agreed arrangements.

You may need to consider venue permissions, insurance, relevant permits, financial records and appropriate promotion.

Step 5 — Share Your Fundraising Results

After the event, organisers will need to account for funds raised and arrange for proceeds to be transferred in accordance with their fundraising agreement.

We also welcome feedback about the activity and its outcomes.

Community-Led Events and National MSA Research Events

Some events are organised directly by National MSA Research.

Others are independently organised by community members, businesses or supporters who wish to raise funds for our charity.

These are different arrangements.

A community-led event does not automatically become an official National MSA Research event simply because its proceeds support our organisation.

Organisers must obtain permission before using our name, logo or other branding.

The wording used to promote an approved community event should accurately describe the relationship with our organisation.

Fundraising Guidelines and Responsibilities

We want community fundraising activities to be enjoyable, safe and responsibly managed.

Depending on the nature of the event, organisers may need to consider:

  • Relevant fundraising laws and permits.
  • Public liability insurance.
  • Venue and property permissions.
  • Financial record-keeping.
  • Appropriate handling of donations.
  • Safety and accessibility.
  • Child safety requirements.
  • Advertising and promotional approvals.
  • Privacy and the handling of personal information.

Community event organisers are generally responsible for planning and managing their activities unless different arrangements have been expressly agreed.

National MSA Research may not be able to provide equipment, volunteers, financial assistance or operational support for every event.

Please review our Fundraising Terms and Conditions before proceeding.

How We May Support Your Fundraiser

Depending on the proposed activity and available resources, National MSA Research may be able to consider requests for fundraising support.

This could include approved promotional wording, permission to use organisational branding or information about Multiple System Atrophy.

Any assistance is subject to availability and organisational approval.

We encourage organisers to discuss their needs with us early in the planning process.

Workplace and Corporate Community Events

Businesses and workplaces can play a valuable role in community fundraising.

Staff fundraising days, team challenges and corporate community activities can create opportunities for colleagues to work together while supporting a meaningful cause.

Businesses may also wish to explore sponsorship or charitable partnership opportunities.

National MSA Research welcomes enquiries from organisations interested in discussing suitable arrangements.

Raising Awareness at Your Event

Community events are an opportunity to do more than raise funds.

They can also help people learn about Multiple System Atrophy and its impact on individuals and families.

Where appropriate, organisers may wish to share approved educational information about MSA during their activities.

We encourage the use of reliable, respectful and accurate information.

Personal stories and photographs should only be shared with appropriate permission.

Supporting an Existing Community Event

You don’t have to organise an event yourself to make a difference.

You may prefer to participate in an approved community activity, contribute to a fundraiser or help spread the word.

Supporting local organisers helps encourage community involvement and creates opportunities for more people to learn about our mission.

Please check the specific event listing for participation details, booking arrangements and any applicable conditions.

Donations and Fundraising Proceeds

Funds raised through an approved community activity support the charitable objectives of National MSA Research, subject to the applicable fundraising arrangements and any accepted restrictions.

Event income and expenses should be recorded accurately.

A ticket purchase, raffle entry or payment for goods and services is not automatically a tax-deductible donation.

Eligible voluntary gifts of $2 or more may qualify for an Australian tax deduction under applicable requirements.

Organisers should not promise tax-deductible receipts without confirming the appropriate arrangements with National MSA Research.

Share Your Community Event Story

We appreciate hearing about the experiences of people who organise fundraising activities supporting our organisation.

Following an approved event, organisers may be invited to share photographs, feedback or a short summary of their activities.

With appropriate permissions, selected highlights may be considered for our website, newsletter or community communications.

Sharing these stories can help recognise the generosity of supporters and inspire others to become involved.

Every Community Can Make a Difference

National MSA Research was established in October 2024 following the loss of Adrian Klep to Multiple System Atrophy.

His family’s experience inspired a determination to raise awareness of a condition that remains unfamiliar to many Australians.

Community events help carry that message beyond our organisation and into the places where people live, work and connect.

Every gathering creates an opportunity to start a conversation.

Every conversation can help improve understanding.

Every approved fundraising activity can contribute towards our shared mission.
